A 2000 year-old vampire, Marius is the illegitimate son of a Roman Senator and a Keltoi (Celtic) servant woman. As a result of his illustrious paternity, in his mortal years he enjoyed a life of luxury and was considered to be an accomplished scholar.
When he was in his 40th year, Marius was abducted by a group of Druids who were determined to make him the successor to their ailing 'God of the Grove', who was an ancient vampire. He was transformed into a vampire and then, using his new vampiric speed and strength, promptly escaped from the clutches of the Druids who would have shut him up in a great oak tree and used him for ceremonies and rituals. Before he escaped, the vampire who made him told Marius about the great Mother and Father to all of the vampires and informed him that he must go to Egypt because something was horribly wrong with them.
Marius went and rescued the Mother and Father (Akasha and Enkil) and took them out of Egypt. Thus he became the custodian of 'Those Who Must Be Kept', and was to remain so until Akasha was awakened by the antics of The Vampire Lestat in the mid 1980's.
Marius is pictured here in his red velvet cloak (his favourite colour and style of garment for many centuries). He is pictured against a background that could be the forest he was taken to by the Druids, or the magical garden he obsessed about in the book _Blood and Gold_ by Anne Rice. Pen and ink drawing, painted in Photoshop with a Wacom tablet (background completely done in Photoshop).
